Comments: Hello and G'day from downunder in Aussie! I came across your fantastic site after looking for information on a possible 'King' Kieran of Ireland for my son, who by chance is named Kieran.
An old (now deceased) Aunt of Irish extraction once told me that she thought there was once a 'King Kieran' in Ireland but wasn't certain if it was fact or fable. I was hoping to find out by researching over the net, but as yet, have been unable to do so.
I am extremely impressed with your wonderful pages and have bookmarked them to return to them again later to read more about your lovely area.

Comments: What a great site. I visited Lawrencetown in Oct 2000, the birthplace of my grandfather Samuel McIlhagger. His father George was the seargent of police there from 1881 - 1894. I got a great thrill to be able to go to the original police barracks and actually knock on the door of where my grandfather was born. A sense of belonging to the area.

Comments: Just passing and caught your site. Have been back to Ireland twice now. My side of the family moved from Ballinasloe to Galway in the early 1800's. And then on to Australia.
have been able to trace family history back many centuries, other spelling of the name Colahan, Coulahan, Colohan and more!! There's an old tale that the first Colahan to go to America witnessed a duel in Ireland, which was against the law. He had to leave Ireland in a hurry!!!!

Comments: Looking for details of my Grandfather William John Clarke who was born in America. I believe his parents were Thomas and Katherine Clarke who came from Kilagh and Kilrickle respectively. They lived in Meelick on their return from USA. Granddad was brought from America when he was 14-16 yrs by his uncle Red Mick Clarke who was from Fahy son of Hyacinth Clarke and cousin of John Clarke of Eyrecourt. The family were evicted by Clanrickard and eventually moved to Garrycastle, Banagher. Loved your website and now my male cousins and I make an annual pilgrimage to Offaly and Galway to see our relatives. Will make a point of calling on you next time. Very impressed.

Thomas, Lucy & Eliza emigrate to NY in 1868; their father went to Australia with several children. Lucy & Eliza became Ursuline nuns in NY and founded the College of New Rochelle in 1904. Comments: Firstly, this is a grand site. The History, Places and local news brings one up to speed on the activities of today in Lawrencetown. The Accommodation page makes it easy for those who wish to visit and know nothing about Ireland. I for one, would at some point in my life return to the birthplace of my great great grandfather, William Kennedy, who was born in Terryglass, across Lough Derg. I can only visualize what I read but your efforts by including pictures gives me more of a feel of what the Country is really like. William left Ireland about 1832, single, and headed for Canada, settling in Nepean of Carleton County, as many Irish did at that time. Your O'Madden page was informative relating to Inch County, as the Burkes (Bourkes) and Fogarty's were from there also. I have done extensive Canadian research on the Kennedy's, Fogarty's, Burkes, Brophy's, Madden's, Tighes that arrived in Carleton. Please keep up the fantastic efforts on maintaining and improving this site. It reaches out and touches all places in the World and you should be proud of that alone. Thanks to Martha for sending me here. I hope that the day will arrive that I step foot onto Irish soil and experience Ireland for what she is. Take care.

Comments: According to information I have been given, my great-great-great grandfather, Owen Colahan was from Lawrencetown. I have not been able to find much information about him while he was still living in Ireland. He came to America before 1860 and lived in Ashland, Pennsylvania, USA. He ran the local rest stop for travelers.
I was able to visit your town in 1995 and enjoyed my visit! I was pleased to stumble across your website this evening!
