Lawrencetown Playground
Full 1

Situated in the heart of Lawrencetown Village, right beside the Community Hall, like a colourful beacon, the playground is the perfect place to encourage children to play outdoors and engage their imagination. The playground boasts fabulous junior and senior play units, a variety of swings, a seesaw, springer, spinner bowl, monkey bars, a natural outdoor play area with a fairy garden, little obstacle course and a sizeable sand box. There is ample space to run around and there are beautiful flower beds throughout. The walls are adorned with colourful artwork and slogans, created by local school children, encouraging people not to litter the playground. There are picnic tables and benches, making it the ideal place for children of all ages and abilities to meet.

The playground was officially opened in February 2018. It brought an immediate boost to the community to have such an amazing outdoor recreational area for the youth of the village.

The playschool, which is run in the adjacent Community Hall, also benefit immensely from this facility as the children have the playground literally at their backdoor!

This year, the playground has yet again been enhanced with the inclusion of sensory elements, which appeal to multiple senses. There is an array of beautiful plants and herbs, to stimulate the senses of touch, smell and taste. There are Bongos, a musical chime board, skylight crawl tunnel and magic mirrors, which all help engage and develop the senses of sight, touch and hearing.

The Lawrencetown Community Development Group are particularly thankful for the CLAR funding received for this project – E49,475 received in April 2017 and a further E13,000 received in 2020 to update the playground with the sensory garden.

There truly is something for everyone in Lawrencetown Playground!
